Frequently Asked Questions

What does a dietitian do?

Dietitians are the experts to consult when it comes to specific, personalized and evidence-based information and recommendations required. They translate medical nutrition science into practical, appropriate and affordable food guidelines to help manage your condition or disease or to prevent disease.

How do I make an appointment?

The quickest and easiest way is to click on the link to the booking page and follow the step by step instructions.

Alternatively you can send an email detailing your preferred time (09:00 – 14:00), dates / days (Mon-Fri) at 35 Feld Street, Windhoek for an appointment and I can do the booking for you. The email address is info@smarthealthnamibia.com.

You are also welcome to give me a call during office hours at 081 5777 107. If I cannot answer, please leave a message or send me a text or WhatsApp message and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Do I need a doctor’s referral letter in order to see a dietitian?

No, you can see a dietitian without consulting your doctor first. If necessary, the dietitian will encourage you to see your doctor for specific reasons and information.

Can my consultations be claimed from my medical aid?

Yes, the practice is contracted-in with all medical aids except PSEMAS, therefore I claim directly from your medical aid according to the amount of time spent with you face-to-face as well as for the compilation and revision of meal plans and for email or telephonic queries related to medical nutrition therapy.

Please note there is a co-payment/admin fee payable.

Can I bring my husband, wife or partner along to my appointment?

Yes, you are welcome to do that. In fact, I actually recommend it in order to get better insight into the recommendations that would suit you best. If you both require an individualized meal plan, it is best to book two consecutive appointments to allow enough time to cover all important information.

Do you see patients in the afternoons or weekends?

Yes, but only by special arrangement with the dietitian.
